Manta Pacific introduces MultiDA, a modular architecture that leverages data availability services from leading providers to enable resiliency and redundancy in the network.

Manta Network is excited to announce its MultiDA strategy, enabling resiliency through its modular integrations to offer continuous uptime to the network. As a pioneer in the modular ecosystem, Manta Pacific is the first Layer 2 (L2) to leverage MultiDA. Previously, Manta Pacific was the first general L2 to go modular by integrating Celestia DA.

To date, Manta Pacific is the largest modular L2, and taking advantage of modular DA has saved its users over $6m in gas fees while introducing high throughput to the network. The lower cost and scalability translate into a better user experience, reducing the friction and cost for each transaction across the 200+ ecosystem applications and partners live on Manta Pacific.

Today, Manta Network also becomes the first L2 to take advantage of MultiDA by adding integration with EigenDA, NEAR DA, 0G, Nubit, and Dill on Testnet.

This addition provides fallback redundancy. If one modular DA servicer becomes inaccessible, Manta Pacific can continue to operate by writing to the other DA layers online. This redundancy provides more security, safety, and a better overall user experience on Manta Pacific. Users will be able to take advantage of Manta Pacific’s MultiDA without any change to their existing experience; everything happens automatically on the backend.

“We’re excited to see Manta Pacific leverage NEAR DA as part of their MultiDA strategy. This framework aligns with our vision of building the next-generation of modular infrastructure for all. Using multiple DA layers will boost rollup scalability and hence will enable more powerful decentralized applications to thrive.”

— Altan Tutar, CEO of NEAR’s Nuffle Labs.

Multi DA for Enhanced Resilience

As the Manta Pacific ecosystem continues to grow, prioritizing high throughput and uptime has been paramount. Having been the first Ethereum L2 to use Celestia for Modular DA, our commitment to reliability also means preparing for all scenarios, including potential downtimes should they occur.

By integrating multiple DA solutions such as EigenDA, NEAR DA, 0G, Nubit, and Dill, we significantly enhance our uptime and resiliency. This multi-DA approach ensures seamless accessibility to multiple DA offerings, maintaining uninterrupted service through secondary data posting.

In fallback scenarios, Manta Pacific’s system will automatically determine which alternative DA to use based on several factors:

  1. Availability: The system checks which of the integrated DAs are operational and available.
  2. Cost Efficiency: Among the available DAs, the system considers transaction fees to select the DA layer that offers the lowest costs.
  3. Performance Metrics: Other performance factors like throughput, latency, and reliability are also considered to ensure the best possible user experience.

This setup means users won’t need to manually select a DA service; the system will handle it automatically, maintaining seamless operations and consistent fee structures.

“At 0G.ai, we’re committed to pushing the boundaries of blockchain scalability, programmability, and security. Partnering with Manta on their MultiDA strategy exemplifies this commitment. By integrating multiple data availability solutions, Manta is setting a new standard for resilience and uptime in the blockchain space. This approach not only mitigates the risks associated with single-point failures but also enhances user trust and network reliability. We’re excited to be part of this innovative initiative. We’re excited for Manta’s users to experience the fastest, most secure, and programable DA and storage solution on the market.”

— Michael Heinrich, CEO of 0G.ai.

“MultiDA represents a pivotal advancement in enhancing the resilience, uptime, and security of decentralized networks. We’re excited to contribute to this initiative, setting new standards for network performance in web3. By integrating with Nubit, Manta will leverage Bitcoin’s security for DA, ensuring smooth operations and low costs.”

— Prof. Yu Feng, Founder & CEO of Nubit.

Impact on User Experience

“Our goal at Manta Network has always been to push the envelope and introduce new standards for the industry. As the first L2 to leverage modular DA, we will continue to lead with our MultiDA strategy powered by Celestia, EigenDA, NEAR DA, 0G, Nubit, and Dill. By prioritizing the security, resilience, and uptime of the network, we are paving the way for a more robust and reliable blockchain ecosystem. This will empower users with enhanced trust and accessibility, ultimately accelerating the mainstream adoption of decentralized technologies.”

— Kenny Li, Co-founder of Manta Network.

Research and development of MultiDA continue with the integration of NEAR DA, EigenDA, 0G, Nubit, and Dill on Manta Pacific testnet. The anticipated functionality of MultiDA includes implementing additional DA options as a sidecar with secondary data posting.

This setup provides redundancy in case of a liveness or persistence failure on Celestia. As a result, there will be no impact on the user experience, and fees will not be affected. Users will not need to select which DA service to use; the system will automatically handle this based on availability and cost efficiency, ensuring a seamless experience.

Why Multi DA?

Increased Uptime and Resiliency:

Utilizing multiple DA layers reduces the risk associated with relying on a single provider. In the event of an outage, we can transition to another DA layer, ensuring continuous service for our users.

Enhanced Security:

By spreading our data across multiple DAs, we mitigate the risks of a single point of failure, making our network more secure and reliable.

Cost Efficiency:

Users benefit from multiple DA layers through lower transaction costs and increased flexibility. Leveraging another DA provides more options, ensuring users get the best possible service without significant cost increases.

“We are excited to partner with Manta on their innovative MultiDA strategy upgrade. This initiative marks a significant advancement in the modular blockchain ecosystem, setting new standards for data availability and blockchain resilience. By integrating Dill, Manta is not only enhancing scalability and permissionless access but also ensuring fast finality. Dill’s commitment to building a more scalable, decentralized data availability layer aligns perfectly with Manta’s vision. We are excited to contribute to this innovative initiative and look forward to the positive impact it will have on the entire blockchain space.”

— Ted, Co-founder of Dill.

Looking Ahead

The addition of multiple DA layers to Manta Network is a significant step toward a more scalable, secure, and decentralized blockchain ecosystem. By leveraging multiple DA layers, we continue to pioneer solutions that bring reliability, efficiency, and security to blockchain scalability.
