MantaPay Launches on Calamari Network

This year marks an extraordinary time in the global economy. We witnessed the limitations of trust with the existing financial system following the shutdown of large banks, including Silvergate, Silicon Valley Bank, and Signature Bank, which locked up client funds for individuals, startups, and large organizations. Now more than ever marks an important time to empower users to store and access their funds in a non-custodial and private manner through web3. That’s why we are excited to make our impact today through the launch of MantaPay on Calamari.
After years of building and testing, rounds of community feedback reviews, and updates on cryptographic optimization and frontend design, the product is ready to release to the web3 world, starting within the Kusama ecosystem. We witnessed over 150,000+ private transactions take place on our testnet, and thousands of pieces of valuable feedback were provided to help improve the MantaPay product before its launch.
To celebrate this launch, we will announce a series of early user opportunities, activities, airdrops, and other incentivized programs that will help drive the adoption of on-chain privacy. You can stay tuned to our announcements about this on Twitter.
Getting Started with MantaPay
To get started with MantaPay, you will need two tools:
- The Manta Signer. Manta Signer is a desktop application that protects spending secrets and builds zero-knowledge proofs. It allows you to send and receive private assets, aka zkAssets. In the future, we are releasing an extension wallet application that will have Manta Signer natively integrated.
- A wallet application such as Polkadot.js, SubWallet or Talisman. This wallet application allows you to store your public assets and transfer them over the become zkAssets on MantaPay.
Once you have those tools, you can head over to the MantaPay app on Calamari Network. For detailed instructions on how to privatize assets, bridge assets from other parachains, and make private transactions, you can view the step-by-step instructions here.
At launch, MantaPay on Calamari supports various cryptoassets on its private payment system:
- Calamari Token (KMA)
- Kusama Token (KSM)
- Moonriver Token (MOVR)
- We will be adding additional cryptoassets soon; stay tuned for our announcements on Twitter.
We will support additional assets in the future. Additionally, in a proactive stance to address regulatory ambiguity, MantaPay on Calamari does not support users within specific regions, including the United States, China, Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Syria, Myanmar (Burma), the regions of Crimea, Donetsk or Luhansk. Therefore, only users in certain jurisdictions can access the application.
Leveraging ZK in MantaPay
MantaPay uses zero-knowledge proofs to guarantee that transfers are carried out in accordance with a structured protocol called “circuit” while maintaining the privacy of sensitive data (such as the amount of money you send or the recipients of your transfer).
The sensitive information acts as a witness in a ZKP system rather than publishing directly on-chain, ensuring the protocol is maintained correctly and no private data is leaked. The ledger then tests the resulting ZKP’s verify function against the inputs from the public and, if it succeeds, publishes the transaction. We have optimized this entire process for the ZK circuit generation and verification. For proof generation, we offer the fastest prover speed of any layer one network, allowing users to generate a ZKP in around 2 seconds.
